kudos to what u accomplished in July 2007, but the reality is we haven't seen any major action after that. I guess its mostly frustration from ppl here, who think that the US housing/EB crisis can be pursued aggressively than expecting for CIR to happen.

thats the problem.... I cannot switch to another job as I am in the 7th year of H1B and I-140 approved but did not apply for I-485 yet. friends told me its risky to switch jobs now as I may be out of status.

What CAN be the "perceived benefit" from a rally like this that would make you think that it would be worth attending? My first reaction. You're kidding, right! Ever worked in marketing/sales?? When you go to sell your product or service, you try to sell it from the point of view of the customer. In this case, what the benefit can be from the point of view of the US govt and US economy. Yes, our primary aim is to get our GC's in a reasonable time frame. The slogans and messages are in support of these ( By the way both happen to be true).
Incidentally, even the spark in Gandhi was ignited when he personally was insulted and thrown from a train. My point being that it is only when we personally are affected by an issue that we react to it. The reaction ofcourse differs based on our own individual character, personality and other traits.

Another take - if US can have an endless source of temporary workers coming in, paying into income tax and social security taxes and medicare taxes for a few years......and going back without claiming a single dime of social benefits......its the best possible situation for US....a forever young, qualified, minimum wages (i.e prevailing wages) earning tax paying transient population supporting/ subsidizing an archaic and otherwise struggling social security and healthcare system.

pl think about what i wrote objectively......and dont jump on me just because i am playing devil's advocate

Assuming @gc28262 doesnt know this because of his personal experiences and exposure, do you guys think *all* consulting companies charge their employees money for the Visas? I know personally only those who doesnt charge. One of the consultants I know strives to differentiate himself from these. He provides benefits like in a large company.
One thing guys, if you know abuse and are silent because of any reason (could be you want your spouses/brother's H1Bs to go through or any reason), you are all guilty. So, dont try to be naive..
I dont want to tell anything about L1B because I dont know if there is anything illegal in anything companies are doing. First this is no slave labor. It is a free will employment. Just because somebody is ready to do some work for less, legally, you should not be worried too much. Instead of worrying about billing, try to upgrade yourselves to become better in skills, capabilities etc...your market value will automatically be upheld if not become more. Being an L1B myself, I dont see any single day I felt like I was abused or I am cheated by my company.

This is not 100% relevant to this thread but since we are discussing APs here, I thought I will ask the question.
Do we need AP to go to / come back from US Virgin Islands? I know that these islands are U.S. territories and should be nothing more than going from one U.S. state to another. The reason for my question is that the DOS website states that for travelling to USVI, the U.S. citizens should carry a Photo Id AND Birth Certificate to establish the U.S. citizenship. Many websites state the same thing and some sites mention that this is because of nearby British Virgin Islands. As you can just take a ferry and come from British islands to U.S. Islands, the Immigration authorities on Mainland need to check your immigration status. This is not the case for travel to Hawaii or Puerto Rico.

It was a great meeting. I was blown over by the enthusiasm of the folks. It was intended to be a casual get together, but beyond a point it became more serious:D We did have action items and we will communicate it through emails, we cannot post such things on public forum. We are working on the next event planning once we finalize the place and time we will get in touch with U.
Yeah there were few glitches we can rectify it in future.
