The last time I had surgery (January 2, 1986) I was knocked out via IV.
As for what it felt like...
They had put the IV in before I had gone into surgery, and it really wasn't that bad. When the doctor and his assistant showed up the anesthesiologist let me know that it was time.
He ask me to start counting backwards from 100. I felt a warm sensation moving up my arm from the IV and then into my chest. A moment later I felt like I was walking out of a fog... but I wasn't, I was lying in recovery... and I got sick.
It took a few minutes to finally become completely cognizant of my surroundings, but all and all it wasn't a bad experience. The time for the surgery was completely gone (as if it hadn't happened). It felt like (going from fully awake before the surgery back to fully awake again after) it had only taken a couple minutes (the surgery was about 4 hours as I recall).

For those of you saying that we live in a capitalistic society... not by a long shot. Corporate welfare is MUCH MUCH bigger than any fictional welfare queen in Brooklyn. These companies receive tax cuts, loopholes, exemptions far beyond what a middle class suburban couple has access to.
What Target and Walmart are doing is actually against some of the monopoly legistation that was passed in the early 20th century. One of the tenets was that a company coulodn't tell another producer who they could sell to, at what price, etc. This prevented a very large company from gaining to much of an advantage over their competitors.
What Target and Walmart are probably threatening is to just jack up the prices on the DVDs a couple of dollars. This improves their bottom line and reduces the number of impluse buys a consumer makes on a DVD. Or to not put DVD on encaps, in front of the stores next to the checkout. They really do have a myriad of ways of making the studios lose some profit. At tsome point though, the retailers are going to shaft themselves. It really is a game of chicken and the first one to blink, gets the bullet in the head (how's that for mixed metaphors?)

A car that gets 60 mpg will do just as much 'damage' to a road surface as a car that get 8 mpg....but the 50mpg car will pay much, MUCH less for upkeep of that road than the other in a gas-tax based situation.

I don't get what's the problem with Garmin's view. Garmin decided to go live and have upto date maps and traffic alert. I can imagine they also have some sort of cash so you only have to d/l the map once and then it lives in your iphone. It also has an amazingly small footprint - weighs in at only 8mb and this is another cool feature of the program!
Besides, none said you cant have garmin for live updates and news + navigon or tomtom as a standalone gps.
I like Garmin's approach, wish they make it for Europe as well

Sometimes, the app store restrictions are a bit ridiculous, and when Apple realizes that they're dealing with people who know what they're doing, they remove those restrictions quickly.

10.4.7 is a total crap.
It caused kernel panic in my computer and made it behave totally erratic. I had to uninstall back to 10.4.6
I hope the new upgrade will solve many issues that were created by 10.4.7:mad:On your Quad G5? It runs like butta on mine. Did you make sure to use the Combo updater and not the Software Update incremental 10.4.7 updater? I always use the Combo.

I know that Apple's concern about the white iPhone (according to the rumors) is color matching, which, of course, I can't blame them for wanting it to be perfect. Was just some sarcasm there, guys :D

Does anybody know if the push is applied to chat messages when the messages toggle is on? Does it only apply to the messages that arrive in your inbox? Also, could someone explain what Facebook gathers from your phone during sync? I would rather not give any information that compromises anything my friends would like to keep out of the hands of Facebook.

Office for Mac or Office for Windows? Easy decision.
I haven't opened VMWare Fusion for months, since I installed Office for Mac.
YMMV.
After dealing with the bugs in Excel 2011 for Mac, I have been running the PC version of Excel 2010 in Fusion ever since...it runs far faster on the VM than Excel for the Mac runs. There is no comparison.
I'll see if the update helps but I'm not expecting much.
Plus a lot of add-ins aren't available, but you can get Solver for Mac now.
To each his own, I just use the PC version because I can build large worksheets much faster in it. (using Fusion 3, Win7Pro, Excel 2010)

My previous post was worded a little poorly. Ansel Adams probably did make his own paper, and did a lot of "post processing" in the darkroom.
Back in the film SLR days, most hobby/amateur photographers did not participate in the "post processing" of their shots because they sent their film to a lab to get developed. That does not mean that there was no post processing being done to their pictures though.
